Vara Musavvir is a leader in Pakistan’s craft business world. She founded Firefly and the Crafters Guild. Her journey began after graduating in design from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture.
The Birth of Firefly
Vara started Firefly with wallet-sized greeting cards. It was a new idea in Pakistan. People doubted her. They asked, “How many keychains will you make? How much money will you earn?” But Vara didn’t give up.
Growing and Evolving
Firefly grew. They made about 25,000 keychains before stopping that product line. Vara wanted to focus on more sustainable products. She saw other similar businesses popping up. It felt good to inspire a creative movement.
The Ultimate Crafters Workshop
Vara noticed people were interested in her craft. She started teaching. She shared her knowledge about inks, tools, and techniques. Her first workshop had 55 women. It was a big success.
The Crafters Guild is Born
Vara faced challenges when starting The Crafters Guild. Many people didn’t respond to her ideas. But she didn’t give up. She organized the first Crafters Expo. It wasn’t just about traditional handicrafts. It included urban crafts and paper crafts too.
A Community-Focused Approach
The Crafters Guild is different. They don’t charge for their events. They offer free stalls to NGOs and special needs organizations. Any money they make goes back into helping the community.
Accidental Artist
